founded in 1983 in gamsen, valsynthèse is a valais-based company specializing in fine chemicals and high-risk processes. a subsidiary of société suisse des explosifs (sse), it is a recognized player in custom synthesis for the pharmaceutical, agricultural and technology industries.

the history of valsynthèse is closely linked to that of nitroglycerine. initially used to dynamite the simplon tunnel, this substance has found a second life in cardiovascular treatments. this transition from explosive to drug illustrates the company’s ability to adapt its know-how to the demands of fine chemistry. today, valsynthèse produces around 1,000 tonnes of chemical substances a year, thanks to its 27 reactors, for some fifty customers around the world.

among its notable achievements is betaine citrate, a treatment for digestive disorders. since 1983, four billion doses have been manufactured in gamsen, in collaboration with the french laboratory upsa. this emblematic product testifies to valsynthèse’s ability to develop sustainable, effective solutions.

major investments

the company has also entered into a partnership with dsm-firmenich for the production of bovaer, an additive designed to reduce methane emissions from livestock. this project has prevented the emission of 66,000 tonnes of co₂ since its launch.
