Biar, world specialist in industrial sampling valves

Based in Sembrancher, Biar designs and manufactures sampling systems for liquids, gases and solids for the chemical and petrochemical industries. Since it was founded in 1985, the company has installed more than 30,000 valves in 55 countries, while maintaining all its production in Valais.

The company was founded by Guy Masson, an engineer at Ciba Geigy in Monthey, who developed a sampling valve in response to the difficulties of sampling in industrial environments. Initially based in Lourtier, Biar moved to Sembrancher in 2009, increasing its production area from 600 to 4,000 m². Today, the company employs around 70 people and has a fleet of 30 machines capable of producing up to 15,000 different parts.

A global presence and local production

Biar relies on a network of agents and distributors to market its products in over 55 countries. The company also has maintenance centres in the United States, China and India.

Biar valves are designed to be installed directly on pipes, tanks or reactors. They can be fitted with protection systems to prevent any contact between the chemical and the operator, thereby reducing the risks associated with sampling. Some valves also have advanced features, such as temperature or pH analysis, and can take samples from as deep as four metres.

Biar has around 2,500 customers worldwide, mainly in the petrochemical, fine chemicals and pharmaceutical industries. The company offers niche products, tailored to the specific needs of its customers, and enjoys a reputation for reliability and quality.
