carbogen amcis: complex pharmaceutical molecules are created in vionnaz
based in vionnaz since 2014, carbogen amcis develops and manufactures highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients, intended in particular for the latest generation of cancer treatments. the valais site is part of carbogen amcis’s swiss network, which employs approximately 700 people across several plants. specializing in the most delicate substances to handle, vionnaz has built a solid reputation in the field.
carbogen amcis switzerland is a cdmo (contract development and manufacturing organization), meaning it supports its pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients at every stage of drug development. its activities range from research and development of chemical processes to the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (apis) for preclinical trials, clinical trials, and commercial production.
vionnaz, a site specializing in highly potent molecules
opened in 2014, the vionnaz site is fully compliant with cgmp standards. it specializes in the development and small-scale production of highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients, up to category 5—the most stringent category in terms of containment and safety.
the facility features three process development laboratories, a dedicated quality control laboratory, and three production units equipped with reactors up to 30 liters in capacity, preparative chromatography systems, and freeze-dryers up to pilot scale. in particular, the site is capable of producing highly potent components (known as “warheads”) as well as the molecules that link them to an antibody (the “linkers”). together, these enable the manufacture of antibody-drug conjugates (adcs), a cutting-edge technology used in oncology that involves attaching a highly potent drug to an antibody to precisely target cancer cells.
