valbag, the valais-based expert in plastic injection molding

from ski bindings and coffee machine containers to electric battery cases: valbag ag, a family-owned sme based in gampel, is capable of producing all kinds of technical plastic parts. with its 30 employees, the company uses injection molding to produce parts weighing between 0.1 and 1,500 grams with precision down to the hundredth of a gram.

valbag’s history began in 1987, when niklaus von däniken decided to start his own plastics processing company in gampel. the company rapidly developed its expertise in the injection molding of technical parts for various industrial sectors. in 2016, niklaus von däniken handed over operational management to his children, patricia bregy-von däniken and andreas von däniken, while remaining active in strategic decision-making. this long-term vision, spanning several generations, continues to shape the corporate culture of this family-owned business today.

“the family-oriented nature of our company allows us to cultivate lasting relationships with our customers and employees. this closeness is essential for fully understanding needs and responding to them quickly,” explains patricia bregy-von däniken.

a uniform machine fleet

valbag relies on 17 injection molding machines, all from the same brand (engel). this uniformity in the machine fleet facilitates technical control and ensures consistent quality. most of the machines are equipped with linear robots, enabling automated or fully automatic production.

the company specializes in the mass production of small to medium-sized batches, with a flexibility that allows it to adapt to the specific needs of each customer. the parts produced can weigh from 0.1 to 1,500 grams, with precision guaranteed to the hundredth of a gram. rigorous checks—weighing, measurements, test weights, inspection devices, and magnetic testing—ensure the conformity of every part.

swiss clients across various sectors

valbag works exclusively with clients based in switzerland, drawn from a wide range of industrial sectors: commercial kitchen equipment, construction, pharmaceuticals, electrical, aerospace, and sports. “we put our expertise to work on our clients’ projects, advising them in particular on material selection and optimal geometries,” emphasizes andreas von däniken.

some of valbag’s products are visible everywhere, even if few people realize it. for example, the company manufactures the bean container for the mastrena coffee machine, found in starbucks locations worldwide. it also produces the blue box found behind nearly every electrical outlet in swiss homes, manufactured for agro ag.

valbag also manufactures fritschi ag’s ski touring bindings, used in valais ski resorts, as well as cable tie packaging systems for the pharmaceutical industry (lugaia ag), battery enclosures for aviation (h55), and flanges for sse’s civil explosives in gamsen. these examples illustrate the versatility and high standards of this sme.

everything from a single source: a decisive advantage

beyond injection molding, valbag offers a comprehensive range of services. the company performs sub-assembly work, combining the plastic components it manufactures with parts supplied by customers or standard components. this “one-stop-shop” approach reduces transportation, minimizes risks associated with third-party handling, and ensures a comprehensive understanding of the product.

valbag also specializes in ultrasonic welding, which allows for the assembly of plastic components and the insertion of metal elements such as threaded bushings. the company also has a computer-controlled steam curing facility, which improves the impact resistance of parts subjected to high mechanical stress.

starting in the development phase, valbag supports its customers by performing filling and deformation simulations to optimize components before the project launch. for more in-depth testing, the company collaborates with external partners specializing in computer analysis and 3d printing services.

flexibility, technology, and local commitment

what sets valbag apart from the competition is, above all, its flexibility: flat organizational structures, adaptable batch sizes, development of highly customized projects, and storage capabilities. the company relies on an erp system coupled with computer-aided manufacturing to manage its production efficiently.

valbag operates on a two-shift schedule and is iso 9001 certified. on the social front, the company has collaborated for many years with mitmänsch oberwallis, a vocational rehabilitation institution in upper valais, demonstrating its commitment to the local community.
