Sanaro SA

Sanaro was founded in 1943 by Charles Wunderli in Montreux. It is now based at Vouvry, the manufacturing site for its Assugrin and Hermesetas brands of sweeteners. The company produced saccharin-based sweeteners even in its very early days, plus lemonade powder (Perly), medicinal products and speciality confectionery items (liqueur chocolates, fruit jellies, grape sugar pastilles and mint pastilles).

Areas of activity and markets

Over 70 years after it was founded, Sanaro occupies a prominent position among the world's leading producers of sweeteners. Its products are distributed in 59 countries worldwide. In 1971, the company became part of Hermes Sweeteners Group, and stopped producing confectionery and medicinal products in order to focus entirely on the manufacture and packaging of sweeteners.

Sanaro is a creator of sweeteners, in other words, the company deals with anything relating to the development, finalisation and production of traditional sweeteners (saccharin, cyclamate, aspartame, acesulfame K, sucralose) and natural sweeteners (steviol glycosides and rebaudioside A). Sanaro buys the raw materials (sweeteners and excipients), and formulates, manufactures, packages and distributes different products (16 powder, 28 tablet and 8 liquid products).

Within the Hermes Sweeteners Group, Sanaro undertakes all the tasks related to product development and packaging, manufacturing, and logistics. While the Hermesetas brand occupies a strong position in the UK, Scandinavia, southern Europe and Australia, the main markets for Assugrin products are Switzerland and Austria.
